For more than 40 years Emerald has operated as a specialist journals publisher, building a portfolio of 225 scholarly journals in business and management, library and information sciences, engineering and materials science.

We are committed to identifying new areas of scholarship through our new launch journal programme. In 2008, Emerald moved into the books business through an acquisition from Reed Elsevier of over 300 text and reference books and more than 200 book series. With book titles in marketing, management, economics and ethics, Emerald has reinforced its position as the leading publisher in management research. Our books programme also takes us into other disciplines such as linguistics, sociology and politics.

Digital pioneers

Emerald was one of the first scholarly publishers to publish its journal articles as an online database in 1994. We have continued to develop our online platform. In early 2009 we applied our online expertise to our books programme and launched two digital eBook Series collections, allowing users to search across book and journal content online. We have also embarked on a major web transformation programme to ensure that we remain at the forefront of digital innovation. Emerald continues to work in adjacent market areas; serving large corporate and public sector clients worldwide; and expanding our success in the business and management niche into wider scholarly social science publishing.
