Emerald author wins Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences

Edmund Phelps published in the Journal of Economic Studies

Edmund Phelps, an Emerald Group Publishing author, has won the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2006 ‘For his analysis of intertemporal tradeoffs in macroeconomic policy’.  The nobel prize is awarded for an individual’s contribution to an area of knowledge/research over a period of time.

Rebecca Marsh, Editorial Director at Emerald Group Publishing, comments, “We are delighted that our market-leading publications which include the Journal of Economic Studies, carry articles by authority figures in the field such as Nobel Prize winner Edmund Phelps.”   Edmund Phelps was published in Emerald’s Journal of Economic Studies in 1993.  The 19-page article he published is entitled ‘A Review of Unemployment: Macroeconomic Performance and the Labour Market’.

Edmund S. Phelps is McVickar Professor of Political Economy at Columbia University and director, Center on Capitalism and Society at the Earth Institute.  “On behalf of everyone at Columbia, I congratulate Edmund Phelps on having been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics,” Lee C. Bollinger, President of Columbia University, said. “This is a well-deserved moment of recognition for a man whose pioneering work in macroeconomics has influenced both public policy and ongoing economics research. His work, which has shaped the education of Columbia students for thirty-five years, illustrates the extraordinary breadth and depth of excellence in economics at Columbia.”

Emerald Group Publishing is the leading international publisher of academic and professional literature in the fields of management and library and information services and celebrates 40 years of publishing excellence in 2007.

The Journal of Economic Studies is published six times a year and dedicated to enhancing the link between academic theory and its application at both micro and macro levels. The editorial team encourages all authors to present their material in such a way that the implications for economists are fully explored.  The research community benefits by linking academic activity to end-user concerns and the journal extends readers’ understanding of key issues and builds a framework for future research and policy formulation. By highlighting new perspectives on major economic trends, the Journal of Economic Studies helps to find solutions to the problems facing many economies around the world today.
