Council on Hospitality Management Education (CHME) 18th Annual Research Conference, 13-15 May 2009, Eastbourne, UK
The publisher at Emerald, Valerie Robillard, attended the CHME conference in Eastbourne and ran an author workshop, which was well received.  The conference brought together UK academics and practitioners, in order to encourage partnership through the engagement of many key industrialists in the conference while pursuing academic excellence in the field of hospitality management. The conference was organised around four themes: cultural and critical studies in hospitality; culinary arts and technology; developments in applied hospitality management research; and research and practice in teaching learning and assessment.
IJCHM sponsored the award for Best Development Paper from a new researcher. The winner was Stacey Roche from the University of Huddersfield for her paper “The Social Identity of ‘Older’ Workers in the ‘Stigmatised’ Restaurant Industry: A Social Constructionism Approach”. The paper was submitted to the critical studies stream, but has clear management implications and is a good piece of work.
