The subject of innovation is receiving increased interest both from companies because of their increased awareness of the impact of innovation in determining market success and also from the research community. Academics are increasingly beginning to place innovation as a priority area in their research agenda. This impetus has been partly fuelled by the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) who have designated innovation as one of nine research areas in their research initiative schemes.

The journal aims to be a European forum for disseminating vital information and knowledge in the field of innovation. It publishes high quality papers written by both academics and industrialists which capture leading edge developments, both in practice and theory.

The following are just a selection of broad thematic headings indicating the types of issues the journal will endeavour to cover:

• how to cross-functional integration be effectively achieved to create seamless innovation
• why should, and how can, companies create and operate innovation networks and alliances
• how can innovation processes be benchmarked and performance assessed
• what is the role of top leadership in innovation
• how can designers, engineers, marketers, manufacturers and senior executives come together to build innovation corporations.
