Submissions are invited for a special issue of Management of Environmental Quality exploring mathematical models for the management of sustainable development. It is widely reckoned that the field of sustainable development can be conceptually broken into three constituent parts: environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and sociopolitical sustainability.
Despite this, there is not a common methodology addressing how to make and to keep a system sustainable, quantifying sustainability according to a proper mathematical model.
This special issue aims to start an avenue for integrated research work that takes a systemic or holistic perspective based on a mathematical formulation in relation to sustainability studies where the effects on the environment are clearly quantified.
Potential coverage
The coverage includes, but is not limited to:
Decision making techniques and territorial management
Decision support systems for sustainable development
Identification of sustainable system indicators
Multicriteria decision making for sustainability development
Planning, measurement, control of system sustainability
Safety and security of human and societal dynamics
Case studies are welcome, but not limited to, the following topics: agriculture, logistics, energy systems, tourism, transport, water management.
Submission guidelines and further information
Papers describing an insight which is not based on a mathematical approach to decision making and/or the identification and/or the control of the system sustainability or which can not, in general, provide a quantitative approach to support decision makers in their path towards sustainability and on the related effects on the quality of the environment will not be considered. Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
All papers will be double blind reviewed following the journal’s normal review procedure.
Abstracts should be sent by e-mail to the Guest Editors by 15th March
Final papers will be required by 15th June
