Special Issue: Islamic Financial Institutions and the Global Financial Crisis 2008/2009


Special issue call for papers from International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management

Submissions are invited for a special issue of the International Journal of Islamic & Middle Eastern Finance and Management (IMEFM) to focus on the latest financial crisis of 2008/2009, and how this has related to Islamic financial institutions. This special issue will explore the impact of all aspects of the crisis on Islamic financial institutions, as well as the reactions of the latter, and their success or failure in this regard. A significant plank of this focus is the possible comparison between conventional institutions and Islamic ones. All aspects of the global financial crisis will be considered, including its origins, governmental programmes and cooperation, measurement of success, regulation, and long-term consequences.

All topics of the Islamic financial services sector can be covered in materials within this issue, including (but not limited to):
• banking
• insurance (i.e. takaful)
• fund management
• investment portfolios
• business management

Submission Process:

Technical notes will also be acceptable, and they will be assessed in the usual manner. Books relevant to this major event can also be reviewed for the issue.

Proposed date of publication: fourth issue of Volume 3 (2010).
Submission deadline for receiving papers: February 12th, 2010.
