The International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management has always supported interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and so, in keeping with this agenda, this Special Issue invites contributions from academic and practitioner researchers who are using novel research methods approaches to underpin their scholarship.
In keeping with Holloway and Thorpe (2008) which celebrated different approaches to scholarship in this area, this Special Issue focuses on the multitude of approaches to deriving those findings that underpin interpretations of the productivity and performance management. We invite papers that adhere to either end of the perceived qualitative-qualitative divide, that use mixed methods, or that offer new methods and approaches. The roots of productivity and performance management come from what we might term “hard-core quantitative studies” and yet our knowledge has been enhanced and improved through complementary research that uses or integrates qualitative techniques. This Special Issue will provide readers the chance to reflect on their understanding of well-known approaches whilst looking forwards to those new directions that may offer new insights into productivity and performance management research.
