Guiding content and editorial developments

The content and editorial developments of this site are largely influenced by the recommendations of library and information science (LIS) advisers specially recruited by Emerald for their expertise in the field of library and information science. They are also consulted on a number of issues affecting Emerald's work with the LIS community and new products and services for librarians.

The Emerald LIS advisers are:

Gary Gorman

Professor of Information Management at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His special interest is library and information management infrastructures and LIM education in developing countries, in which field he has worked for 30 years. He has taught, conducted research and led workshops in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, China and other countries. He is an active member and office holder in IFLA, working especially with the Asia and Oceania Section. His publications include more than a dozen books and over 100 peer-reviewed articles, and he is currently editor of Online Information Review.

David Nicholas

Director of the Department of Information Studies at University College London (UCL). He is also Professor of Library and Information Studies and Director of the UCL Centre for Publishing and the research group Centre for Information Behaviour and the Evaluation of Research (CIBER). His chief research interests are the digital consumer, the digital transition and the virtual scholar. He has been editor of Aslib Proceedings since 1996.

Christine Reid

Manager of the Business Information Service at the University of Strathclyde Graduate School of Business in Glasgow. Her research interests include the availability and accessibility of business information and the value of information to managers. She has served as President of the European Business School Librarians Group and a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland. She was named European Business Librarian of the Year in 2000.

Jill Emery

Head Librarian, Acquisitions Department at the University of Texas Libraries at Austin. Currently, Jill is the Past-President of the North American Serials Interest Group, past-chair of the American Library Association’s ALCTS Serials Section, and past-chair of the Texas Library Association’s Acquisitions and Collection Development Round Table. She was selected as the Esther J. Piercy Award winner by the American Library Association's Association for Library Collections and Technical Services in 2006.

Niels Ole Pors

Professor at the Department of Library and Information Management, Royal School of Library and Information Science, Copenhagen. He was previously Dean at the School. He has published several books and research reports on user studies and information behaviour, research methods and statistical analysis, organizational theories and leadership, quality management and educational questions concerning the profession. He has published nearly 200 papers and articles in academic and professional journals.

David Bickford

Dean of University Learning Resources and University Librarian at University of Phoenix. He directs a team of librarians and auxilliary staff that provide library resources and services to geographically decentralized students and faculty using an array of web-based products, document delivery services, and interlibrary loan providers. He also teaches a variety of courses in communication, critical thinking, and research methods.

Linda Ashcroft

Reader of Information Management at the School of Business Information, Liverpool John Moores University, UK. She is active in IFLA and serves on the committee of the Section for Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning, previously on the committee for the LIS Journals Section, and chaired the Continuing Professional Education Round Table. She is also editor of New Library World.

Lisl Zach

Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University's (LSU) School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). Her academic pursuits include studying the information-seeking behaviour of decision makers and investigating ways of measuring and communicating the value of information to organizations. Dr Zach is currently president of the Louisiana/Southern Mississippi chapter of the Special Libraries Association and recipient of the SLA 2006 President’s Award for her work after Hurricane Katrina.

Julia Gelfand

Applied Sciences and Engineering Librarian at the University of California, Irvine Libraries. She is active in professional societies including the IFLA Science and Technology Section; several ALA divisions including the ACRL Science and Technology Section RUSA and ALCTS; the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the Society for Scholarly Publishing and the American Society for Engineering Education. Until recently, she was co-editor of Library Hi-Tech News.

Yafan Song

Associate Professor, Library of Renmin University of China; Director, Information Service Section of China Electro-mechanic Research Institute. She has nearly 40 years' LIS experience and has published more than 20 articles, both in international and national LIS periodicals. She is the co-author of IFLA and Librarianship of China (Vols I and II), chief editor of Weapons & Instruments for Police Use, co-editor of New Encyclopedia of Library & Information Science, editor of Bibliography of REWI ALLEY's Collection. She has also undertaken important scientific research programmes and won prizes such as: Union Catalogue & Indexing for Web Resources for China Academic Library Information System, Union Catalogue & Indexing for Books & Periodicals for China Academic Library, Research in restriction among USMARC structure, used in creating software ed.1 of Union Cataloging System for China Academic Library Information System (CALIS), Managing System of Foreign Ordnance Manufacturers (Software). All the above have brought her name to the attention of the editorial committees of Who's Who in Science and Engineering (2006-2007 edition and 2008-2009 edition) and Who's Who in Asia (2006-2007 edition). Her inclusion in which distinguishes her as one of the most internationally accomplished people and leading achievers in the educational field.
