This guide has been designed to help users who want to add citations from Emerald into their bibliographic software such as EndNote, Reference Manager, RefWorks or Procite.
The first part of the guide details the process required to add and review your search results and how to add these citations to your "Marked List". You need to save your marked list before importing these citations into your bibliographic software.
The second part of the guide details the process used to import the records into bibliographic software such as EndNote or Reference Manager using an import filter for Emerald available from ISI ResearchSoft. These filters have to be installed for older versions of the software but should be included in to future versions as they are released.
We realize this is not the most obvious way for users to import citations into their bibliographic software and we intend to improve it in the near future.
Before you can create a marked list you must first set up a profile (if you have not already done so). To register your profile simply click on “My Profile” in the left hand menu, and fill in the form presented to you.
Select the “Marked List” option from the left hand menu or from the “My Profile” menu. Click on "Create new” and enter a name for your marked list. On the search results page after your next search you will see a drop-down list (see below). Just select the list you want to use:

On the "Marked Lists" page, select a list from to work with from the drop-down menu. You have the chance to review your marked llists here. Once you are happy with your list, click on the "Download (ACSII)" option (highlighted below) and then save the text file on your PC.

These records can then be imported into EndNote (see below), Reference Manager or ProCite using an import filter for Emerald available from ISI ResearchSoft:
These filters have to be installed for older versions of the software but should be included in the future versions as they are released. Click on the "FTP" link to download the Emerald import filter into the EndNote package.

This example details how to import records using the Endnote package (Reference Manager & ProCite work in a similar way). If you are new to Endnote, click on the "Create a new EndNote library" radio button.

If you want to open an existing EndNote library then click on the "Open an existing EndNote library" radio button. Please see "Importing records – EndNote" section.
The first time you import a file you won’t see the import filter that you need in the list of filters. You need to identify the proper EndNote filter to import the data. There are over 200 filters included with EndNote, each designed to read a specific tagged format from a specific information provider. Select "Import" from the "File" options menu and click on "Import Options" drop-down box and select "Other Files".

You will then be presented with a list of "Import Filters" (see below), scroll down the list until you find Emerald then just click on the "Choose" button.

To import your text file into an EndNote library:

The references will now be included in your EndNote library (see below).

The citations will now be included in your RefWorks database.
