Emerald online training session
The opportunity for your library to benefit from one of Emerald’s online training sessions that cover all aspects of Emerald Management Xtra’s database. Using WebEx technology there is no need to invest in any expensive software to participate in a session.
The session (approximately 60 minutes in length) will walk through each feature of the database, its functionality and ultimately affording the participants a greater insight into the benefits therein.

Q. If I want a session, how does the process work?
A. When a suitable date and time has been arranged you will receive an e-mail inviting you to download the WebEx software in preparation for the session (this is a simple process and takes approximately 3 minutes). You will then receive a system generated invitation to participate that will outline the steps needed to enter the online session.
Q. Is it similar to teleconferencing?
A. Yes! A teleconference where we share our desktop applications with you.
Q. What equipment do I need?
A. A telephone (hands free option is useful) and a PC with Internet access.
Q. How many people can attend?
A. Depending on how the meeting is structured, the session can function in a variety of scenarios as follows:
- One-to-one
- One group in an e-classroom – this requires one PC with the image projected onto a large screen and one telephone with hands free function – recommended maximum of 12 attendees.
- Up to 14 attendees from individual PCs. Each attendee will need a telephone – a hands free function is more comfortable in this scenario but not essential.
- A combination of group and individual attendees. This option works well when more than one campus is attending.
Q. Are there any associated costs?
A. This is a valued added service and supplied at no additional cost.
Q. What does the session include?
A. The session generally includes a complete journey through all the features and resources and their functionality, however, it may be tailored to suit needs and requirements accordingly – e.g. a refresher or an overview of specific features or recent enhancements may be all that is needed or required.
Q. Who will benefit from a training session?
A. Librarians and electronic resource managers responsible for the management and delivery of e-content to their institute’s full text consumers, and institutional members with an interest in professional development, such as undergraduate/postgraduate students, faculty, senior management and library staff.
Q. Will the session be purely for my institute?
A. Yes, we invite you and your colleagues to receive a tailor made session specifically to suit your needs. If other institute members are to join the session it will be of your choosing.
Q. Do you monitor session quality and content?
A. Emerald value your ideas and comments, and ask at the end of each session that you complete a simple training evaluation form that encourages feedback on the session content, quality, web functionality and layout. Your comments are fed back to the trainer and our Web Development team so that we may meet the needs of our market customers.
